Fluently bilingual, Désirée has been described by the national media as “one of Canada’s ten most influential people on environmental issues.” Most recently, Désirée was among a select group of Canadians to complete a private training with former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore on the science and solutions of climate change. As chair of the 2006 Liberal Renewal Taskforce on Environment and Sustainable Development, her ground-breaking report and recommendations helped to set the Canadian environmental agenda. Désirée has lectured on Sustainable Development and Globalization at McGill University since 2002, just prior to which she coordinated outreach for the University’s new School of Environment. In addition, Désirée worked as a senior associate with Stratos Inc., an Ottawa-based consulting firm specializing in “strategies to sustainability.” As a consultant on international negotiations and communications, she has advised a range of clients in business, government and media as well as non-governmental and inter-governmental organizations, including Canada’s Departments of Environment and Foreign Affairs, the Canadian International Development Agency, the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation, the World Conservation Union, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the United Nations.
